WHY NO KIDS TRY?
After many discussions, we have made the tough but necessary decision to replace the kid's triathlon with a run/swim/run event. The location of this event having only one entrance and exit into the Kai Iwi Lakes Campground presents its challenges with providing a viable and safe cycle leg for the kids while traffic flows continue to increase.
Challenges also include.
Approvals and logistics to close the road.
Adults and visitors being unable to access the campground due to the road being closed for the Kids Try.
WHAT OPTIONS ARE THERE FOR KIDS NOW?
Kids can register for the Kids Duathlon: 500m run + 100m swim + 500m run. The Kids Duathlon opens the door to our tamariki who do not have access to bikes. The Kids event has always been focused on participation and having fun.
BUT MY KID REALLY WANTS TO DO A TRIATHLON!
Well, you are in luck! The Sanitarium Weet-bix Kids Tryathlon is held on the 11 April in the Bay of Islands. Learn more here.
Start Time - 12:00pm
All Kids will start at the same time with the older kids encouraged to start at the front so they don't scare the younger ones. Kids will start with a run to spread them out before heading into the water for a swim, upon exiting the water kids will run to the finish line.
*Please note the swim is shallow enough for kids who aren't confident in swimming to be able to run through the water. This event is focused on kids giving it a go.
*We will look at the breakdown of ages prior to the event and make a decision based on entry numbers as to whether we start kids in waves.
The Kids Duathlon is open to kids aged 5-13
Super Early Bird entries (end 31 Jan 2021)
Early Bird entries (1 Feb 2021- 14 March 2021)
Standard entries (15 March 2021 - 19 March 2021)
*The entry fee includes a certificate and silicone wrist band.
Kids don't receive a bib number, however, they must have the number associated with their name written on their arm. All kids must check-in at admin. The number lets us know who they are and enables us to quickly find information like emergency details etc.
There are no awards for the kid's event as the Kids Duathlon focuses on having fun and giving it a go.
Age is calculated from the age you will be on race day.
Event director’s decision is final, no appeal accepted.
